64 tasks, organised by week. From booking your removal company 8 weeks out to handing over keys on the day. Never forget a step again.
Moving house is one of the most stressful events in life — but most of that stress comes from things being left to the last minute. This checklist breaks your move into weekly tasks, starting 8 weeks before moving day.
Research and book your removal company — popular dates book up fast. Notify your landlord if renting. Begin decluttering — sell, donate or dispose of anything you don't want to take. Order packing materials: boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, labels.
Confirm your removal booking in writing. Start packing non-essential items: books, seasonal clothing, decorative items. Notify utilities: electricity, gas, water, broadband. Contact your bank and financial institutions with your new address.
Notify HMRC, DVLA and NHS of your new address. Set up Royal Mail post redirect (takes 5 working days minimum). Cancel or redirect subscriptions. Arrange child and pet care for moving day.
Confirm with your removal company. Pack room by room, labelling every box with contents and destination room. Take photos of electronics setups before dismantling. Confirm completion date and key handover arrangements with your solicitor.
Do a final walkthrough of every room including loft, garage and garden. Take meter readings at the old property before you leave. Photograph the old property condition. Receive keys to the new property. Take meter readings on arrival. Check every room of the new property for defects.
